Back Pain
Back pain can be divided into acute and chronic and may be due to a number of causes. Studies suggest that approximately 80% of the population will suffer from back pain at some stage in their life. Of that 80%, approximately half of those individuals will experience recurring episodes of pain. These episodes may lead to limitations completing tasks and activities associated with mobility and self-care.
Many individuals mistakenly believe that these effects are simply due to aging, and therefore delay treatment. Delaying treatment can lead to the problem worsening, and may lead to long term difficulties such as sitting, walking, sleeping and even driving.
Balanced Bodies Osteopathy works with each patient, individually to determine the cause of pain and get their body back on track.
In your initial consultation, your osteopath will take a thorough health history, he or she will then perform a thorough physical examination to define the cause of your pain, and will then devise a treatment plan based on that information.
If your practitioner believes it is necessary to refer you for further imaging or care, this referral can often times be completed on the spot.
Osteopathy is gentle and effective and is often the last point of contact. If you are suffering from back pain, give Balanced Bodies Osteopathy a call!
Neck Pain
Neck pain is very common and can occur at any age. Often neck pain can be the result of wear and tear, poor posture, work habits, stress or injury. These issues may lead to generalized upper back and neck pain, tightness, headaches and joint immobility. At times, nerves can become trapped or irritated, which may lead to pain, numbness and tingling, and at times, loss of strength within the limb/s affected.
How can osteopathy help? Osteopaths use a wide range of techniques including massage, stretching and manipulation. These techniques may help to reduce muscular tension, improve mobility, address posture, and help in the diagnosis of your pain. Treatment is based upon each individual, which may mean that areas such as the back, shoulders and chest may be involved. Osteopaths offer advice on posture, work ergonomics, stretching techniques and strengthening, in order to prolong the effects of your treatment.
At times it may be necessary to send a patient off for specific scans or imaging in order to make an informed decision regarding diagnosis, and to make arrangements with your GP or specialist regarding any additional investigations or treatment.

Foot Pain
Approximately 40% of the population will suffer with foot pain at some stage in their life. This can be extremely debilitating and can sometimes be due to inflammation at the calcaneus, also known as the heel. This is often due to the constant tugging on the attachment site of the sinew, which is a strong band stretching across the sole of the foot, just below the surface of the skin. This band is also known as the ‘plantar fascia’ and when inflamed, is often referred to as ‘plantar fasciitis’.
